What a great gig this was. I can't remember which night I went but it was certainly one of the best gigs I went to and the sound was great, but then I guess it had to be if it was being recorded for prosperity. The Hammersmith Odeon (as was) has always been a favourite venue of mine as the sightlines and acoustics are generally good wherever you are seated. I went with a few friends of mine and (as mentioned in my claim to fame) I was really annoying because between numbers I would blow a football whistle which I just happened to have in my pocket......how annoying I must have been...but it can be heard on the live recording in a couple of places!
Favourite track of the night was perhaps Sportscar (see the YouTube video below, not Hammersmith but the year before 1981).
Judie Tzuke was one of the top selling artists at the time and as such had a great band with her, which featured Mike Paxman on guitar (co-writer and partner I think), Jeff Rich on drums who went on to join Status Quo (hmmmm) and the other great musicians John Edwards, Bob Noble and Paul Muggleton.
A great night and one to remember. Any other JT fans out there?
