Playing Edek
Edinburgh Fringe 2005, The
I was fortunate enough to be involved in the fringe this year. I was taking part in a new play written and directed by Mark O'Connor. The story was based on two people (Mala & Edek) who meet in Auchwitz and fell in love. We performed it at the Underbelly and it was a great experience and well recieved (4 stars in the Scotsman).
The whole atmosphere of the fringe just has to be experienced as it offers such a great variety of drama, comedy, music and art. Everywhere you go there is something going on and the street theatre is excellent.
Every day we (the cast and crew) had to walk the streets to hand out flyers to the passers by to advertise the play and try to steer them towards the venue. But you are also competing with so many other groups trying to get attention for their production - hard work but so worth it.
I had a really brilliant week and would jump at the chance of being involved again in the future.
