I will always be eternally grateful for being spared that evening. I still have all the newspaper cuttings from days after the disaster and video of TV programmes made of it and of me and my cousin Nigel on a Documentary made of welsh survivors for BBC Wales. Fifteen seconds before his exit, he whipped in front of my car to exit to my right on an interstate exit, and misjudged my car's distance and hit me. I was impressed by its style and capabilities, and I have to admit to being biased as I was also a proud owner of a ZX81. Schools were just starting to get hold of the BBC Computer made by Acorn. I was obviously a rebel at the time. I liked the idea that both could so easily allow non experts like me to write programmes using BASIC. I had been using the ZX so I already knew what the key to sinclair programming entailed. i suppose out of laziness I continued to use the familiar code.

Rick put on an extraordinary show in front of Hampton Court Palace in honour of Henry and his 6 wives.
Highlights were when a full church organ was wheeled on to the stage for Rick to perform some of Jane Seymour, and a hand held synthesiser musical soloing duel with his son.
Tonly disappointment was the sound-which was at times not loud enough...in particular the keyboards...would you believe!!

Eric the great!

This was the second time I have seen Eric play at the Albert Hall- although in terms of sheer technical prowess Eric gets no where near someone like Joe Satriani who when I saw him it was just breath taking to see what he can do on a guitar....BUT for sheer feel, cool professionalism, and tone Eric still delivers...absolutely!

Every inch of the highstreet was taken back in time. The Strood end of the town was set up for the brass band and the poor traveller's children who sing christmas carols, the middle of the town was covered in snow, obviously not real snow but very effective never-the-less, the far end of the town was where you could find most of the characters from Charles Dickens novels in all their costumes.

I had seen Genesis on 2 previous occasions (once at Earl's Court in 1977 and again in 1978 at Knebworth). I was not really impressed with 'And Then There Were Three' which was the first album after Steve Hackett left and was interested to see what the next album was like. Now although Duke had that very Collinsy pop type feel in places it was a great album (so I think anyway) and that was why I choose to go and see them again and see how it sounded live. It was New Years' eve. When she came on the crowd couldn't stop showing their delight that she was well and was back. She was visibly moved. It was clear, tho', that she was still not 100%.

This concert at The 02 was fantastic and Kylie was absolutely 100% and more! There was a mix of tracks from X and her last album and ofcourse a few oldies. I must say I was pretty impressed with the Eden Project. I had expected it to be good but until you go you just don't appreciate the environments that they have created under the huge bio-domes. I think my favourite one had to be the tropical one as it really did capture the essence of a tropical rain forest...hot, humid and full of variety. Also worth a mention is the Mediterranean section which was really well laid out and definitely worth a visit in its own right. For any doubters and in case I forget, I can confirm that it was hard work, especially from mile 23 to 25 when it seemed as though my legs would barely move and it felt as though I was going backwards due to the number of runners passing me as I made my way along the Embankment. But then I had a phone call from a friend who was a guest of Keith Emerson (who played!) and Harvey Goldsmith ( who was the promoter!) said and I quote...." It was a big disappointment the sound was crap"

But did the Ahmet Ertegun benefit gig live up to the hype?

The truth is there was good and bad. The lead up with support acts ranging from Albert Lee (still going, still brilliant) to Paolo Nutini did more than get the crowd in the mood, despite the disappointment of no Pete Townsend. Bill Wyman held a powerful band together as heroes of today and yesterday reminded us why they achieved that status. Paul Rodgers belted out ‘It’s all right now’ and it certainly was.

And then. Led Zeppelin. We were in the bar having a drink while the support act were on and almost suddenly realised that they were very different and extremely good. As budding guitarists we were struck by the style and dexterity of the lead player, who also sang. We went into the hall and watched this guy and his fingers fly over the fretboard. David Byrne of Talking Heads came on and thanked them for their set. As part of the summer spectacular in 1981 I was one of hundreds of students all lined up one sunny day to beat the world record for the largest number of human dominoes in a dominoe toppling challenge.

Sadly, I can't remember the number of people involved. And even more sadly our world record was then beaten again before it could make it into the published Guinness Book of Records. Still, that didn't detract from the sense of having achieved something notable and worthwhile as a student community!!

Spike Milligan entertains the crowd at Royal Wedding

I arrived the previous evening with my Dad, brother and next door neighbour, Jim.
