AMAZING HEADLINERS AND GREAT SURPRISE SUPPORT ACT IN LOCAL PUB

Pub gig in Croydon
Story by Coofs

We got tickets to see Talking Heads on their 1977 tour playing at a pretty basic pub in Croydon, South London, 'The Greyhound'.

We were in the bar having a drink while the support act were on and almost suddenly realised that they were very different and extremely good. As budding guitarists we were struck by the style and dexterity of the lead player, who also sang. We went into the hall and watched this guy and his fingers fly over the fretboard. David Byrne of Talking Heads came on and thanked them for their set. It was a very young, fledging and flipping excellent Dire Straits, playing stuff off their first album, before they became CD fodder. Great! (and to top it all, they and Talking Heads jammed an encore of 'Take me to the River' - marvellous). Brilliant to have been there and still as fresh a memory as it was the morning after - quality will out!
