A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

UK Hurricane 1987
Story by TheCoder

I was quite young at the time, but I remember waking up in the night to the sound of tiles sliding down the roof of our house and smashing on the ground below. The power was out and my dad struggled to teather our greenhouse to the ground to prevent it and it's glass panels from breaking.

After it was all over we were lucky to find our house had no major damage except for the lose of a dozen or so tiles, others in the area were a less fortunate than us, with cars being badly damaged by debris, windows shattered, fences demolished, and worse.

Picture is of one of the seven oaks that made up Sevenoaks.

I remember all the tress came down in my road. Took 3 days to clear them and get traffic going again. Quit nice for a change though!
TickTock
