Amiga Format write a game competition
Claim to Fame by TheCoder

Many moons ago when the Amiga was the best home computer going and PCs were still on Windows 3.11, Amiga Format magazine ran a competition for all aspiring game creators to send in there games, the best of which would win a t-shirt and some other small prize (I can't for the life of me remember what).

There were no regulations for the competition except it had to have been created using one of the two home development programming languages available at the time; Amos or Blitz Basic. I had always been a keen Amos supporter so I chose that.

I had already written a few titles before and released them under the Licenceware label (better than shareware) with F1 Software.

I had wanted to try my hand at a small cute puzzle game, and so I came up with Falling Down. The basic prinicple was to help save a race of blue furry creatures from the evil red ones. In each level the furries appear at the top of a puzzle grid with randomly openned gates beneath them. It was the players job to toggle the gates in each row trying to work out how to get the red furries to fall to their death while keeping as many of the blue furries alive as possible.

The game took approximately two weeks to complete. I sent it in and waited as the days went by.

Finally one month later the new magazine was released and amazingly I had won the competition. There was my game in print. It was one of the happiest days of my life.

And it was to be repeated a year later with another game I wrote called Ultimate Domination, this game was a massive turn-based strategy game. It wasn't for a competition this time but it was printed in the magazine as the months top shareware game.
