MY claim to fame..Father

My late father, Leslie Airey CGM was a member of 101 Bomber squadron in WW11 On a sortie over Milan (Italy) they came under fire from an enemy aircraft and my father was shot through the leg although he managed to hit the attacking aircraft even though in pain and trapped by fire (he was the rear gunner).
At 800ft the pilot decided to try and climb over the Alps and make it back to England. This they managed and they landed with less than 2 Min's of fuel left for flying. The aircrew were the most highly decorated in one mission throughout the war.
Now that is a proper claim to fame
