Lunch with Lawrence Olivier

I was about 14 years old and was staying in a hotel with my family in Devon... My complete passion was, and still is theatre and there , staying in our hotel was Lawrence Olivier! He was there to write his memoirs for his autobiagraphy. On the Sunday buffet lunch I plucked up the courage to ask Lord Olivier if I could get him some food from the buffet (he was quite frail). He said yes and then invited me and my family to have lunch with him. I had an amazing time listening to his stories of his drama school auditions...particularly the one he did in the Royal Albert Hall which he said was terrifying! IUt was for central school of Speech and Drama and although he was awarded a place heis family couldn't afford it - in the end he had to re-audition for a scholarship and was awarded one... We also talked about Dorking - my home town and his too! He was born and bred in Wathen Road in Dorking, Surrey and he seemed to really enjoy exchanging stories about the town and community. The whole event was really interesting for me and he really encouraged me to keep going into theatre.
